We have always done it this way.

There is no phrase more destructive to modern business than “we have always done it this way.

I cannot tell you how many times I have heard this statement over the years and it infuriates me every. single. time.

When I sold door to door, managers often said that I should shave my beard. They said it made me look like someone who had something to hide.

Instead I used it as an icebreaker and a way to build rapport quickly. A little bit of self deprecating humor (usually calling myself “orange Chewbacca”) tended to get people on my side very quickly.

When I sold to trucking companies, I was told to wear a suit at all time. The rationale was, you guessed it, we have always done it this way. However I cannot hel;p but think of how contrary to all my other training that was. What ever happened to mirroring my customer?

In my modern role, I have heard real estate agent being told to put an ad for their open house in the paper… despite it being 2020. I don’t know anyone who even gets the paper anymore.

The world has changed, and we need to ensure we all adapt with it. The railroads have mainly become a relic of a bygone era because they thought they were in the railroad business, not the transportation business. As soon as automobiles became mainstream there was not more room for such restrained thinking.

Use this blog to challenge everything. While perfection is nearly impossible, we have far too many people willing to settle with “good enough”.

Russel Brunson, co-founder of ClickFunnels, says that you are “One Funnel Away”. This means with one simple sales system, you can change your life forever! Sure, most of your ideas will not work out, but you only need ONE of them to in order to accomplish what you are looking for.

Be bold. Take the road less traveled and enjoy a view that few others ever will.
